A Review of Mac Miller’s Mixtapes For This Year and Last Year

Mac Miller has passed on. Death came quickly from the mouth of Philadelphia artist Mac Miller, known for his hard-hitting work on the album cover and throughout the tracks on the “Swimming Pool/ “OSOM” album. His name will forever be a part of those that heard him grow and evolve into one of the most innovative and influential rap artists of our time. For years fans have clamored for a full length CD release of his. Now fans can finally hear what they’ve longed for with the release of “All Of Me.”

This is the official audio stream of the mixtape that was supposed to be released last year but never got here. A lot of us were hoping this album would be the perfect ending to the career of one of the very best rappers of the last decade. We all saw him come into his own with The Grey Room and Man On The Moon: The End of Day. With each new project, he seems to evolve and cater more towards his crowd. This latest album is no different.

This is actually the first track that will be featured on his new record. I have a feeling that I am a little bit surprised with the direction that he’s taking. Normally, mac would branch out and do a verse for an edgy beat. Instead he’s going back to his roots with a fresh style that will have me searching for more of what he does. He takes us back to that world where the only people that matter are the people that are around him, which is great because it makes you realize how much you miss him.

For anyone that hasn’t heard of him yet, let me introduce you to Mac Miller. He is a 31-year-old former professional basketball player. He joined the ranks of the rap game with the release of his first full length album entitled Street On The Coast. The album was successful in establishing him as a rap artist and a star was even produced as a result. After a few more albums, the then still unsigned mac finally signed to a record label (earning himself a Number One song) and released his debut album January through Geffen Records.

Now I’m going to bring up some of my favorite songs from the second half of the album that features Mac Miller. This first week of his comeback was very successful in establishing him as a talent that not only rap songs but can sing and perform as well. Tracks like “Remember You”, “Lookin’ My Best”, and the closing track “Hip Hop Motivation” definitely cemented him as someone that will be around for a while.

The first song that I would like to include on this mixtape is called “Never Get High” and is the second track that features Mac Miller. I really like this song because it was the first time that I heard him rap and I was instantly reminded of people like 50 cent and jay z. I really like the smooth flow of the song and the production makes it seem like they are making a beat for the trap genre of hip-hop. The verses are all over the place, which I liked. The most memorable part of the song is when he raps about shooting girls. Now this may be a touchy subject for some listeners but that is just the type of music that Mac Miller is.

The final song on my mixtape is called “Reality Show”. This is the song that truly kick started the career of Mac Miller who went on to fame and fortune with shows like The Grey’s Anatomy, The Newhart Show, and several other reality shows. I have always been a huge fan of reality shows and this is the first song that I heard of his that makes the cut.

These are the songs that truly made me fall in love with Mac Miller. He has grown into a fantastic rapper and has released several mixtapes that I feel are essential listens. I hope that more people will discover the genius of Mac Miller and put these songs on their mp3 players.
